We Aim To Slay

Welcome to the Makeup Round-Up! This is a monthly series where I’ll be sharing new makeup products, and the looks I’ve created throughout this month that weren’t highlighted in their own articles.

The Products

This month was much slower, makeup wise. I started a new day job which did marvelous things for my outfit content, but did not have the same effect on my makeup content! Much like the overall vibe of the month, the new products this month were practical and appropriate for everyday use!

Romantic Beauty Cosmetics

This month I was approached by the brand Romantic Beauty Cosmetics and accepted a collaboration that included three of their best selling products: the Bee Mine Honey Lip Oil and the Jelly Dream Glowy Melting Balm in the shades Crystal Jelly and Berry Punch!

I have truly become a fan of all three of these products but for totally different reasons. I keep the Bee Mine oil on my desk at work as it’s the perfect way to revive my lipstain throughout the day, offering nourishing hydration without changing the color of my lips.

The Crystal Jelly shade of the Melting Balm plays double duty, acting as the perfect clear sparkle for a minimal makeup day (of which there were many this month!) and for adding dramatic shine on top of a matte lipstick (which you can see in the Y2K look below!). And, the Berry Punch shade adds the perfect sheer-red shimmer for everyday!

The Staples Restock

I’m not sure if I should even admit this, but I’ve gone through more makeup in the last seven months than I have in the 20 years I’ve been wearing makeup; and somehow the first products to run out are always primer, setting powder and setting spray.

In last month’s Round-Up I shared that I was testing the e.l.f. Power Grip Primer and the Stay All Night Micro-Fine Setting Mist. I have been loving the primer! Especially for taming my eyebrows in a quasi-laminating way. Sadly, the sprayer on the setting spray abruptly stopped working. But! I’m almost finished with my current setting spray (Maybelline Facestudio Lasting Fix Matte Setting Spray), and I’ll just swap sprayers once it’s empty!

This month I continued on the e.l.f bandwagon by purchasing the Perfect Finish HD Powder. I’ll be honest, I was prepared to hate this product because I don’t typically like pressed powders but I’m incredibly impressed! I’ve found that I’m able to achieve an equally solid application with both a fluffy brush and a velour pouf. 

You may or may not have noticed that I’ve been obsessed with ColourPop products for years (they don’t sponsor me, but I’d love it if they did!) and I’ve been getting a lot of use out of the Mystery Box products! I wear the Hydra Pop Glossy Lip Stain in Fruit Punch nearly everyday, so when I saw it at my neighborhood Target I had to grab another! And while perusing the display I noticed the BFF Liquid Liner in shade Numero Uno – you can never have enough black liquid liners, but don’t be fooled, I still use the red one (shade Try Me) as well!

The Mysterious One

I’ve been captivated by the look of kohl for years and after listening to me yap on endlessly, my mom bought me my own kohl! Sadly, I have yet to test this product out, but that will be a tutorial for sure!

The Looks

Like I said above, my energy was very low this month and I think you can see that reflected in the makeup. I’d venture to say 75% of the looks this month were variations on what I’d consider “everyday” makeup looks…

Back to Basics 

For all of these looks I created the same base makeup look using the products outlined in my newly released base makeup tutorial!

Having a solid base makeup routine streamlined my application process, which in turn has given me more time to create increasingly more interesting and detailed looks – even when I’m headed into the office!

Let’s Kick it up a Notch!

Blue may just be my favorite makeup color to work with! Here I’ve created two different looks using a lot of the same products, starting with my favorite use : a baby blue highlighter eye!

And here, I started with the NYX eyeliner pencil in shade Electric Blue which I then topped with the ColourPop Blue Moon palette and finished off with some of the Aora Mexico Mirame silver eyeshadow in the inner corner. But you tell me, which version of these everyday blue looks do you like better?

Dark Blue Woes

On the opposite end of the blue spectrum we have shades like this navy from the Aora Mexico Mirame palette. Ordinarily I love working with this palette, but I’m not very happy with how this look turned out. To me, it feels as if something is missing but I can’t decide what that is, exactly.

Y2K Glam

I’m obsessed with how this look turned out! Even though I introduced the Coleyes Colored Contact Lens last month, this was the first time I used to compliment my glam! Here I’ve match the House of Lashes style Gisella Demi with the Coleyes style Monarque Deep Grey…

Flower Power

…And here I’m wearing the Coleyes style Monarque Blue as a compliment to this floral look, topped with the House of Lashes Collab Collection style Marigold! Both this look and the Y2K glam have tutorials coming!
