How to Combat Humidity with Natural Curls!

Between starting a new job, New England’s newfound “monsoon season”, and the general chaos of life in 2026, I haven’t been giving my hair the attention it deserves.

As a result, I’ve experienced an explosive amount of frizziness! When my frizz gets out of control there are several tried & true methods I turn to, but I’ve recently found solace in some new products!

What Causes Frizzy Hair?

According to an article from the experts at John Frieda, “the main cause of frizz is a lack of moisture in your hair,” which “causes your hair to seek out and absorb moisture from the air,” hence “why humidity can make frizz even worse.”

The article goes on to explain several common causes of frizz including hair health and hair care techniques, but today I’ll be focusing on the effects of humidity and the ways to combat it – with a specific focus on naturally curly hair!

The Products I’m Using

My curly hair journey has been a long and filled with many products – some of which caused more frizz than they combated (we’re looking at you, Not Your Mother’s Curl Talk line!).

But with product costs rising, how do you know what products to use without breaking the bank?

Know Your Hair!

As they say, “to be seen is to be loved.” My curls are a mix of 3B-3C-4A curl types with low porosity, which means that I have a blend of curls that are looser in some sections than others and my hair cuticles are very tight which makes it hard for moisture to get in.

As a result my hair requires frequent deep conditioning treatments (at least twice a month), and responds best to styling when I use a combination of cream-based products and some sort of gel to seal in all of the stylers. You can find many of my favorite products in the “Master List” article and linked on my “Hair Care for Mixed Curl Types” Benable list!

My New Obsessions

Last month my favorite curly hair brand – Love Ur Curls – announced that they would be making a few changes – rebranding their iconic logo & launching two new products: The Moisture Milk and The Moisture Infusion Butter!

When I first tested these products I split my hair with a center part, styling each side with one of these new products, and let me tell you – these are two very different prodcuts!

According to the brand, you should “use the Moisture Milk when you want lightweight, layerable moisture that hydrates” and softens, and “use the Moisture Infusion Butter when your curls feel extra dry, fragile, or in need of deeper nourishment and moisture retention.

The Moisture Milk

According to the brand, the Moisture Milk should be applied “to soaking wet or damp hair to instantly hydrate, soften, and smooth curls without weighing them down.” If you’ve seen any of the We Aim To Slay hair tutorials, you’ll know that I apply my stylers while still in the shower, so there’s plenty of water!

I’ve since used this product in combination with the All-In-One styler and the Irish Sea Moss Gel, and I liked how much length was retained. But, I found that those wash-n-go’s did not last as many days as I’m used to – about 2 or 3 compared to the sometimes 5 to 7 days of just the All-In-One and Irish Sea Moss Gel.

The brand recommends using this product to touch up and rehydrate between washes, something I’ve yet to try, as I’ve been loving the Volumizing Foam for that exact thing!

The Moisture Infusion Butter

Remember how I said my hair prefers cream-based products? I knew from the beginning that this was going to be the product I liked best, and that’s largely due to the results I’m trying to achieve. In the past, as I was growing out my hair, I was more interested in length retention but as I’ve gotten older I’m more invested in the fine details; getting a tighter and more defined curl, and maximizing shine.

According to the website, the Moisture Infusion butter is a “rich, restorative butter” that “helps seal in hydration, smooth frizz, and protect against breakage while leaving curls softer, healthier, and more manageable over time,” and I couldn’t agree more!

Which Do I Recommend?

I trust Love Ur Curls to nourish and protect my curls from the stress and heat damage I inflict upon them, and I highly recommend all of their products (and even their hair tools!). Both of these products apply really well, offer a good deal of hydration, and smell amazing. But whether or not you should try the Moisture Milk or Moisture Infusion Butter comes down to one serious question: what is your hair goal?

If you’re just looking to deeply hydrate and heal your hair, I’d actually recommend their deep conditioner: Deep Condition + Repair. It’s a traditional deep conditioning product that you can use as a treatment or as a leave-in conditioner, both of which I’ve done and I’ve always gotten fantastic results!

If you’re looking to retain length in your curls without manipulating them with a styling tool, use the Moisture Milk. The blend of avocado and moringa oil are going to nourish your hair and offer lightweight hydration.

If you’re goal is to make your curls be the star of the show, I’d recommend the Moisture Infusion Butter! With shea butter as a key ingredient, you know you’re get some deep healing as well as heavy duty hydration!

Anti-Frizz Hair Styles!

Over the years I’ve shared some of my favorite ways to style my curls in the “Creative Hairstyles” series, but some mornings force you to choose between your ideal hairstyle and getting to work on time!

This year I find myself going back to the classics: slicked back buns, half-up & half-down, utilizing accessories such as a headband and clips, or my go-to when my hair needs a washday, space buns!

I recently found and figured out how to use a set of French hair pins that were given to me by my aunt – I only mastered a few styles, but if you’re interested in learning leave a blue heart emoji in the comments!

What Do You Think?

How has your hair responded to the humidity? Will you be trying the newest editions to the Love Ur Curls product line? And, should I share my hacks for using French hair pins on natural curls? Drop your vote in the comments below!

I’ll be back next week to share my tips, tricks & preferred methods for fixing broken nails!

Have a great rest of your week, and remember to SLAY!
