The May Round-Up!

The May Round-Up!

Oh how drastically things can change in only a few hours… I owe all of the W.A.T.S., community an apology. If you don’t follow We Aim To Slay on social media, you might have missed that for 6 days in May, my beloved dog-son Dante, was missing. His return was due to the efforts of Lost Pet Search Dogs and CT Dog Gone Recovery, as well as the incredible individuals surrounding the area where he was found.

As I’m sure you can understand, I needed some time to recover after spending a week in the absolute worst state of mind; but, I didn’t realize that process would take nearly a month. So once again, I apologize for being M.I.A.! And, I’m excited to share that I’ll be turning these “lemons” into lemonade, with the return of the We Aim To Slay #SelfCareSeries! Stay tuned for more updates, and make sure to check out the first season, available on YouTube!

And now, let’s resume our regularly scheduled content! Welcome to the Makeup Round-Up! This is a monthly series where I’ll be sharing new makeup products, and the looks I’ve created throughout this month that weren’t highlighted in their own articles.

HEADER – The Products

Sadly, many of these products arrived during Dante’s absence, so full looks and tutorials are on the horizon!

The House of Lashes Collab Collection!

At the end of the April I learned that House of Lashes would be releasing the specialty styles that had previously only been available at Sephora: Marigold, Madison, Iris, Natalia, and the Gisella Demi. Together, these five styles are known as the Collab Collection, and I was beyond excited to recieve them!

My PR package also included a tube of the HOL clear lash glue – the strongest lash glue I’ve ever used!

UNICOS Beauty Faux Freckles

I was recently approached by the brand UNICOS Beauty, who asked if I was interested in trying their faux-freckle product: the 2-in-1 Freckle & Blush Pen. Although I don’t have natural freckles, I do have many beauty marks on my face and thought, “Why not!”

I found this product to be really easy to use! On one end you have a matte, liquid blush (I have the shade F01 Sunkiss, a peachy toned blush) which I found to be very subtle and natural on my skin. And on the other end you have the freckle stamp, which makes applying faux freckles easy! My review video is coming soon!

HEADER – The Looks

May started out strong, but it was quite the departure from earlier in the year when I was all but “chomping at the bit” to paint myself from head to toe!

The (Smokey) Eyes Have It

I was cast as a model for this year’s Middlesex Fashion Week event and did my own makeup for the runway – a classic smokey eye and nude lip, featuring the H.O.L. style Love & Light. While this is considered a “classic” smokey eye, I usually work in grey-scale to create my smokier looks, so this was a fun detour!

This warmer variation ended up being my go-to look for that weekend: I recreated it the next day to judge the Jacob’s Journey SUDC Fundraiser pageant, and to attend my showing of The Devil Wears Prada 2. This time I swapped the lashes for the HOL Iconic Lite!

Did I love the nostalgia factor of that movie? Of course. Was this a good movie? No, I’ve literally already forgotten everything other than Simone Ashley being fabulous and looking incredible.

Shall We Promenade?

The most dramatic look I did during May wasn’t even on my own face – it was this Euphoria-inspired look that I created for my baby sister’s prom!

Sunset GRWM & Life Update

Between my sister’s prom and this point, I was completely out of touch with the internet while searching for Dante. Once he was safely home, I created this sunset-hued look (the tutorial is linked below!) and finally tested out the liquid eyeliner that came in the ColourPop Mystery Box. Although I didn’t photograph it, I topped this look with the Gisella Demi lashes and I’m obsessed with them!

All In A Days Work

At this point in the month, I start to step away from the avant garde in favor of classic, clean looks in order to interview for (and ultimately, get!) a new job. Very few of these looks got a proper photograph and none of them have a video – but that can be easily changed, if there’s a look you’re interested in learning how to recreate!

As you can see, I’ve been really loving that blue eyeshadow palette that came in the ColourPop Mystery Box!

HEADER – What Do You Think?

Is there a makeup look you’d like to see me try, or a product you’d like me to test in the next Makeup Round-Up? Let me know in the comments below! I’ll be back next month with another Monthly Round-Up, until then…

Have a great rest of your week, and remember to SLAY!
