The Spring Wardrobe Update!

With the return of warmer weather and sunny days, I’m shedding my winter layers and opting for shorter hemlines! I’m not usually someone who subscribes to popular trends, but as we know fashion is cyclical, and right now the trends have circled back around towards some of my favorite concepts – dynamic details, unexpected color combos, and international influences!

Here’s how I’m updating my wardrobe for this year using pieces I already own, plus a few additions!

The Trends for Spring/Summer 2026

Much like suggesting “florals…for spring”, saying that this time of year makes me want to wear more colors seems redundant. But, that very idea is what inspired this article; while working on another styling project I stumbled into the color combination that will be dominating my spring style – green and pink. Is this by any means “groundbreaking”? Not at all, but it did lead me to researching this season’s trend forecast!

As if in retaliation to the announcement of Pantone’s 2026 color of the year – called Cloud Dancer, but it is in fact, just white – the fashion and beauty communities dove head first into color; opting to use them in unexpected ways as detailed in this W Magazine article.

But color wasn’t the only expression of rebellion. Indulgence in embellishment is also on the table with fringe and applique detailing, as well as the exploration of how clothing sits in the body – oversized, slouchy, and breezy could be seen far and wide, as noted in this Vogue Magazine article.

And some of my personal favorites: a shift from the hustle and bustle of urban life with beach-core becoming the new athleisure, an overall appreciation for “Core Dressing” to add whimsical elements to each day, and reimagining basics, as presented in this Harper’s Bazaar article.

Color Combos to Try This Season!

As I said above, I’ll be channeling Elphaba & Glinda this season, opting for Pantone colors “Island Green” and “Fuschia Fedora”.

And while this color combo is predictable for the season, they are unexpected for me – which is what makes this trend so fun! We can pair two truly unexpected colors like two of my absolute favorites, sky blue and maroon – which have been deemed an unexpected combination for this year (even though they have lived harmoniously in my home for years)…

…or colors we wouldn’t personally pair together, like green and pink!

It’s All in The Details!

I’ve long been a champion of accessories – they can completely alter your look, without much forethought or effort! But not every “accessory” is an added piece of jewelry…

Consider picking clothing items as accessories – like this macrame fringe tank top! I’ve had this piece (I found at TJ Maxx) for more than a decade, and it’s one that I like to reach for on a day when I simply cannot be bothered to “put together an outfit”. Throw it over jeans and a plain white top for a touch of excitement on an otherwise average day!

Fringe is one of my favorite details, because it can be incorporated in so many ways – like a skirt, bag, or even on your shoes!

Or, opt for something like a satin scarf. I frequently use them as hair care and accessories, but I also like to wear them! Add a slim scarf to your waist as a pop-of-color belt or even around your neck for Parisian flair.

Romanticism Renaissance

I’d be remiss in omitting the influence of popular media on our personal style choices, and right now we’re clearly longing for the elegance and the drama of romance – as noted by the recent releases of Bridgerton Season Four, ‘Wuthering Heights’, Frankenstein, Nosferatu, and countless others!

So how do we add a touch of period dressing to everyday dressing? You can start with a classic – the corset top! Companies such as Perfect Corset NY are normalizing the corset top as your go-to base piece, and while I love the look of a corset, I’m opting for pieces like this corset-inspired top!

Not a fan of that much structure? Then you might enjoy channeling your favorite era with a dramatic sleeve; like this white blouse,  which features the dreamiest Bridgerton-coded sleeves.

Do you prioritize comfort over fashion? Then you’ll be happy to know that satin pajama sets as clothing is also a trending look for this season! And while I don’t have a traditional pajama set for this look, I’ll be recreating it using this vintage nightgown I bought several years ago!

The Basics… With a Twist!

There are many trends that aren’t actually new, such as linen trousers or athleisure, but they’ve been reimagined in ways that make them seem new and fresh! I have stated many times that I don’t like athleisure, but it’s making a pivot from “pilates princess” to mermaid-core, and that’s right up my alley!

If you’re not someone who wants their look to scream “mermaid”, opt for subtle nods like the season’s hottest item: the seashell. While many are choosing to wear shells as jewelry – like in this Vogue Article – I’ve become obsessed with this seashell purse! Still too obvious for you? Try pairing the season’s hottest color – blue – with its oceanic friends, green and purple!

Other reimagined classics include monochrome gray, oversized suiting, sports-centric sunglasses, and screen-printed graphic tees – something I have by the hundreds!

Heading Into Autumn

With the conclusion of Fashion Month and the Fall/Winter 26 presentations, there are some trends slated for later in the year that I’ll be incorporating now, or at least thinking about!

Faux fur (and the idea of fur in general, really) is always a bit controversial, but I happen to love faux fur, or as they’re now calling it, “fun fur”. Throw a brightly colored jacket over an otherwise sedate look and you’ve instantly elevated your outfit!

And even though I tend to lean much more feminine in the warmer months, my style always comes back to the glam grunge end of the spectrum once the weather shifts – so I’ll be opting for my favorite color combos: red and black!

To my delight and surprise, a lot of the Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter trends overlap – dramatic detailing, adding embellishments, and selecting unexpected colors (like mustard yellow, which dominated in Milan and aubergine purple which captured attention in New York).

What Do You Think?

Are you leaning into any of these trends as the weather gets warmer? Do you switch up your wardrobe with the seasons? Let’s start a dialogue below!

At the end of the day, the core message behind We Aim To Slay has always been and will always be, to express yourself authentically because true beauty stems from confidence.

I’ll be back next week to share the spring refresh for my hair routine!
