The [Glamorous] Haunting of CT – Resort Wear at Sunrise State Park!

A few weeks ago I reunited with my former boss, mentor, and the powerhouse behind CT Fashion Mag, Mike Chaiken, at an abandoned resort out in Moodus, CT, where we shot a gothic take on resort wear!

What is Resort Wear?

When Mike first approached me with this idea I was super excited – until I realized I wasn’t quite sure what qualified as “resort wear”. After a quick Google search I learned that it’s described as: “a style of clothing designed for vacation and leisure, focusing on breathable, comfortable fabrics like linen and silk in a chic, relaxed silhouette that transitions from day to night.”

With that in mind, I pulled together several looks that evoked a White Lotus-vibe, and kept my makeup on the softer side – aiming for dewey and bronzed rather than my typical matte makeup looks. For my hair, I prepped my curls using the Love Ur Curls 3 Step System, and finished off with the L.U.C Irish Sea Moss Gel and the Volumizing Foam

When I got these photos back I was immediately reminded of Lars Von Trier’s film Melancholia, which stars Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Gainsbury – to be fair, it’s an odd film, much like the rest of his filmography, but I think it’s fascinating!

The Other Mother’s Haunted Farm House

I bought this dress from Wild Heart Boutique earlier this year during the April Vintage Market Days of CT event, and I’ve now worn it to shoot photos twice, and have yet to have the “perfect occasion” in which to wear it in my real life!

The Djinn In the Lamp

This Princess Jasmine-inspired two piece belongs to my mom, Stacey, and is from the brand Venus! It’s only been within the last year or two that I’ve felt comfortable wearing a crop top, let alone a bandeau; so for me, this look may be my favorite of the set because it represents a personal milestone!

The Weekend Wendigo

You may recognize this top from the first installment of my Halloween Makeup Series, the Glam Grunge Pirate! These flowy trousers and the makeup-trunk style purse have been in my wardrobe for so long that I honestly don’t know who made either piece, or where I got them!

Dracula’s Bride

I bought this dress on my April trip to Florida, and if you follow my social media you may have noticed that I bought this dress in two colors – black and this cream variation. This linen dress is by the brand VAV New York, and while they’re new to me I will be definitely be looking through their future collections!

What Do You Think?

Which look is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below, and head over to CT Fashion Mag to catch the rest of Mike’s shots!

I’ll be back next week to recap my first ever cold weather camping trip, and how to pack a capsule collection for those of us traveling to colder climates! And in honor of heading out on this new adventure, I’ll be sharing one of the long awaited Florida Travel Vlogs on the We Aim To Slay YouTube Channel on Friday morning!

Have a great rest of your week, and remember to SLAY!
