Pageant Perfect Makeup – for Any Formal Occasion!

Recently, I’ve spent a lot of time wearing a full face of makeup, so today I’m walking you through my process to create the perfect eye look for any formal occasion!

The Base

Some people prefer to apply their eye makeup first, but I prefer to start with my base. Not too long ago I posted how I create my base makeup, and I’ll be using a lot of the same products for today’s look!

As always, I’ll start with a clean and moisturized face, then I’ll create my base using…

  • Foundation – Smashbox Healthy Glow – In the “makeup base” post, I only list the Clinique foundations I like; one is for a matte finish and the other is a standard finish.

The Eyeshadow Palettes

To craft the perfect pageant ready eye, I’m going to be using two of my favorite palettes, the ColourPop Of Quartz and the Sailor Moon x ColourPop Pretty Guardian. Because neither of these palettes have a true black shade, I keep an individual eyeshadow in my kit as well in order to darken the outer corner.

When creating a look like this, that features such dark shades, I like to begin with my lightest shades and build into my darkest shades.

HEADER – The Process

I begin with the Sailor Moon x ColourPop palette, in shade “Shining Moon” as my base shadow color, applying it all over my eyelid from my lashline up to my eyebrow. Then I move into the ColourPop Of Quartz palette where I’ll start with the shade “In The Zone,” which I’ll use to start creating the overall shape that I’m trying to achieve. To apply, I work in a triangular motion, first blending into my crease (only about halfway though!) and then bringing it down towards my lashline.

Then I’ll move to the shade “Granite Access,” which I’ll apply directly over the shade “In The Zone,” following the same exact shape. The last shade I’ll use from this palette is “Opaque,” which I’ll also apply on top of “In The Zone” and “Granite Access.” I’ll finish off my eyeshadow with my individual dark eyeshadow, which I’ll only apply in a very small part of my outer corner. In between each of these increasingly darker shades, I’ll use a fluffy brush to blend all of these colors together. But, once I start adding the darkest shade I blend more gently in order to keep this shade mostly in the same area. Then, I’ll finish off my eyeshadow look by moving back to the Sailor Moon palette to use the shade “Silver Millenium” as my lid brightening shade and the highlight under my brows.

I also use the shade “Opaque” and the individual black shadow to line my lower lash line. I’ll use the Stila Stay All Day waterproof liquid eyeliner to create a very thin liner along my upper lash line.

Then, I’ll finish off with mascara – currently I’m using the Benefit Bad gal BANG! waterproof formula. Instead of applying false eyelashes, I’ve really been enjoying using the Lancome Cils Booster XL Mascara Base prior to apply mascara.

What I love most about this eye look is that you can recreate it using any colors! I created this exact same look using the brown shades in my mom’s Morphe 35R palette, for my interview look at the International and American Women of Service pageant back in July!

HEADER – Finishing The Look

This is where you can have a little more fun – with your lip color! The lip I choose usually depends on what I’m wearing, but my go-to classic lip is the combination of the Bite Beauty Amuse Bouche in shade “Chai” topped with the Sailor Moon x ColourPop Ultra Glossy Lip in shade “Sailor Moon”.

Unfortunately, I just learned the other day that BITE Beauty closed in 2022, so, I’m including the Temptalia Link to the review and dupes!

And, here’s the finished look in action!

What Do You Think?

Do you think you’ll try this look? Give it a try and send me your photos! I’d love to see your creative takes on my favorite look!

This weekend I’m headed to Pennsylvania with my mom, Stacey, to judge the Miss American Nation and Miss Culture Galaxy pageants – next week I’ll be back to share all of our activities and outfits!

Have a great rest of your week, and remember to SLAY!
