Seven Days of Slay – Winter Edition

#SevenDaysOfSlay is back! This is a series where I document everything I wear throughout the week, and this time I’m focusing on outfits that will help you survive a New England winter, while still being stylish!

The key to transitioning your wardrobe into the cooler months is layering. A good layering moment can take any piece of clothing and make it winter appropriate. Recently I’ve been experimenting with layering unexpected pieces such as mini dresses under maxi skirts or even tucked into pants! This has been a fun way to get more out of my wardrobe and to keep me on track with my New Year’s resolution of not buying new clothes!

Monday, Jan. 22

Because it’s currently winter in Connecticut, I employed the art of layering to ensure comfort and warmth. Starting at the base, I wore opaque black tights under a beige bodysuit and my Mona Lisa socks (which I cuffed after lacing up my trusty Doc Marten boots). For bottoms I chose a midi length black velvet A-line (by the brand Notions), over which I layered a large brown belt to help hide the skirt-to-shirt seam, and over all of that I picked my rust-brown wrap sweater. I finished off the look with a pair of golden leaf earrings and my striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames.

Tuesday, Jan. 23

I was feeling tired and sluggish this morning, so I went for soft fabrics and slimming colors. This has become one of my favorite ways to “fake” having more clothes – by folding up the hem of this Forever 21 mini dress, and layering it under my pleather joggers from Zara. On top I wore my black cardigan from Hot Topic, a pair of black suede booties from Plato’s Closet, and sparkly gold socks. Accessories consisted of the stars and moon headband from SheIn, and a pair of sparkly, dangling earrings Hubby bought me from Temu, and the striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames.

Wednesday, Jan. 24

The weather was typical for this time of year; snow all night and rain all day, so we’re bundling up! I started this outfit with my Doc Martens – my go-to shoe for all unpleasant weather. In order to maintain warmth on all fronts I wore a pair of cotton tights under my base layer, a black satin peasant dress from Zara. The one downside to this look was that I didn’t anticipate the static that would build between the dress and tights – so my dress was slowly creeping up my calves all day. I wore a white cable knit sweater over the dress, and even though this sweater is warm, it’s shapeless. To add shape back into the look, I used two safety pins to secure the hem higher up, and used a dark brown belt to keep the sweater in place. On top of the sweater I chose my SheIn denim jacket.

Because the  sweater and jacket both have a lot going on in the collar area, I decided to slick my hair back into a bun, around which I wrapped a white ribbon and tied it into a bow. For accessories I went with my pearl stud earrings, a pair of gold hoops that Hubby got from Temu, my SheIn pearl hoops, and my striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames.

Thursday, Jan. 25

I woke up exhausted this morning, so much so that I turned off my alarm and skipped the gym. With that energy in mind, I went for comfort over fashion. I started with my Doc Martens and these caramel colored corduroy trousers from SheIn. Because these trousers are high waisted, I did a mini French tuck on a gray H&M sweater. Over the sweater I layered a black and orange-plaid button up shirt; I cuffed the sleeves and tied the ends of the shirt in order to showcase all of the layers. I finished off the outfit itself by adding my rhinestone snake belt. For accessories, I pulled in the orange hues with a pair of pumpkin earrings (both the earrings and the flannel are from Temu), and finished off my hair with the SheIn stars and moon headband. I completed the look with my striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames.

Friday, Jan. 26

It’s casual Friday! Again, I started with the Docs, which makes me wonder if this isn’t a #SevenDaysOfSlay Doc Martens edition LOL! I decided to break out a pair of classic fit Lee jeans and a new cropped blank tank top from Temu (thanks, Hubby!). Over that I layered one of Hubby’s t-shirt button downs (by Batik Bay), and added a leopard print cardigan. To tie together my jungle-safari-color-theme I wove a leafy ribbon into my hair and pulled it back into a crown. For accessories I wore the textured gold hoops in my 3rd holes, and green leaf pendant earrings in my first holes. I finished off the look with my striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames.

Saturday, Jan. 27

It’s errands day! I started with a pair of black Gloria Vanderbilt jeans which I cuffed to showcase my Vans. For the top, I layered a tag-less gray cropped sweater under a maroon and gray flannel that I borrowed from Hubby. For the hair, I recycled Friday’s leafy crown by creating a bun and wrapping the crown around the bun, pinning the sides of the twists into place. I finished off the look with my striped-and-floral Zenni Optical frames, and a simple pair of gold hoop earrings.

Sunday, Jan. 28 – Our First Date-iversary!

Today we have two looks! I started the day by folding a literal mountain of laundry while wearing Adidas leggings, an asymmetrical-hem-and-oversized sweater by the brand Blush, a pair of fuzzy socks, and these equally fuzzy sandals by KuaiLu

Sunday Night

This was also the anniversary of our first date, so Hubby and I went out to celebrate! Using the base layer from my New Year’s outfit, I wore the rhinestone-and-mesh catsuit under a pleather Zara mini skirt. Hubby just got this Rengoku jersey for me from Temu, which served as the inspiration for my makeup! On top I wore a leather jacket from Chico’s.

I attempted the Pamela Anderson bun once again, and I think it came out way better this time! Because my hair was up, I did a full ear stack using a dainty pair of wire hearts in the third earring hole, a pair of red stone studs in the second, and a dangling butterfly pair in the first earring hole. The catsuit covers the feet, so I added a pair of ballet flat socks to add warmth beneath these Shoe Dazzle booties – I couldn’t find my exact pair on their website so I linked the three pairs that are most similar: the Mackenzie, the Bosalicia, and the Khloy

Once I had taken an almost infinite amount of photos we headed to a local restaurant, The Manhattan, for one of the best meals we’ve had in a while! I heard about this restaurant from my local radio station and I’m so glad we went! If you’re in the central Connecticut area, you should definitely make time for The Manhattan, located in Southington!

I’ll be back next week to discuss the secret to photo ready nails at home – the Le Mini Macaron Gel Nails system!

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week, and remember to SLAY!
