#SevenDaysOfSlay – Winter to Spring Edition!

For those of us in the northern hemisphere in the midst of another winter storm, the need for warm weather is at an all time high! And while winter and spring battle for control, getting dressed has become more frustrating than normal.

In today’s #SevenDaysOfSlay we’re walking through a week’s worth of outfits that hit the delicate balance between winter and spring. Let’s get into it!

Outerwear Opulence

This past weekend New England was hit by yet another blizzard, which reminded me the importance of choosing warmth above all else! With that in mind, this look puts the focus on the outer wear and accessories.

I started with a corporate-appropriate base ensemble; a black Theory suit, layered over thick tights and a turtle neck bodysuit. To add some interesting elements to an otherwise simple look, I opted for oxblood patent [p]leather boots, a pair of leopard-and-green, chain accented, fingerless gloves, a turquoise necklace, leopard print cashmere scarf, a pair of green sunglasses with gold snake accents from Tilly’s, and a faux alligator bag.

Gothic Glam

After purchasing a harness and a dramatic belt from KillStar , I’ve been brainstorming new and out-of-the-box ways to style them – and I think this look does just that!

Here I’ve styled a top ten wardrobe staple – the Little Black Dress, also known as the LBD – beneath a pair of flared, plaid trousers and used the Wanda Harness to keep the dress in place. Because of the gold details on the harness I added gold details throughout the look with a snake collar necklace and one of the chains from the Poised Opulence belt! The look was complete with a black and brown wrap, the Windsor boots, and a black [p]leather purse with gold hardware and fringe details.

My Personal Uniform

Of all of these looks, this one most closely mimics my day-to-day uniform: boots, jeans, a tank top, and some sort of sweater or jacket.

Here I’ve opted for my trusted Dr Martens boots and a pair of boyfriend jeans. To elevate the look I’ve paired these casual items with a cowl neck tank top in green velvet, and the oversized-and-sequined blazer I got at last year’s Vintage Market Days of Connecticut! Finishing touches included the pearl accented belt I got at the Dazzle Boutique closing event, a sequined Betsey Johnson purse, and my Aora Mexico Chili Charm!

Preppy Meets Pop-Of-Color

As we get closer and closer to the return of warm weather I’ll be mixing sartorial elements from both winter and spring, like this hot pink sweater that was a gift from my friend, Monica! In a similar vein, I’ve carried pink throughout the look with these Sorel heeled boots with a pink sole.

To mix in the spring elements I’ve picked classic staples: a white tank top bodysuit, a denim jacket, and a satin trouser from Plato’s Closet which features a mix of greens and pinks. To top it all off I’ve added my Kate Spade bouquet bag to really channel springtime vibes!

Classically Feminine

Likewise, I’ve picked traditionally “winter textiles” – velvet and (faux) fur – in traditionally “spring” styles – a mini skirt and bubblegum pink, respectively.

To channel springtime, I paired this rhinestone mini skirt (from TJ Maxx) with dainty gold and pearls jewelry, a BCBG purse, the pink-soled Sorel boots, and a some relatively new pieces from Francesca’s – the circle framed sunglasses, and a peasant-style blouse! For winter details, I layered sheer tights under chunky grey socks and topped the entire look off with this fuzzy jacket!

Everyday Chic

When the weather fluctuates rapidly, my secret weapon is layering! This look starts with a very simple base: flared and distressed jeans (from Francesca’s), and a black tube top (from Amazon).

Then I added layers such as an oversized button down – perfect as a lightweight jacket or even as a top – and a suede trench coat that I got from TJ Maxx. Because this look can be dressed up or down depending on the chosen layers, I’ve pulled two different bag options: a structured BCBG purse for a brunch or lunch outing, or a tote bag (from World Market) for running errands. I completed the look with a springtime staple – platform sandals!

The Springtime Fairy

And finally, I am manifesting the quick return of spring with my color combo of the season – green and pink!

I’ve paired a bright green maxi skirt (from Plato’s Closet) with a pink toile corset top from Francesca’s. I opted for dainty and ultra-feminine accessories, like this pink fuzzy jacket, a woven seashell purse from TJ Maxx, and a pair of rhinestone booties that I got in Greece.

What Do You Think?
