Here in Northwestern USA we’re deep into the summer, and gearing up to celebrate Independence Day tomorrow!
This is also an Olympic summer! In honor of a summer of patriotic celebrations all around the world, I created a red, a white, and a blue themed makeup look perfect for a barbecue, Olympic watch party, or any summer gathering!
The 2024 Paris Summer Olympics will run from July 26th through August 11th and the Paralympics will run from August 28th through September 8th, and there are various ways to watch the games via streaming channels! This summer’s games will feature at least 45 individual sports, and I’m most excited to watch Equestrian, Gymnastics, and Surfing!
A Red, White & Blue Manicure
For those of us who may be wary of a bold makeup look, I created a red, white and blue manicure using my Le Mini Macaron kit, and the shades Golden Elixir, Milkshake, Rouge Coquelicot, and the Gel Shine Top Coat. I don’t currently own an LMM royal blue shade, so I used the Beetles Gel Polish in shade number 619 – but you could achieve the same look using the LMM shade Blue Raspberry, a vibrant cobalt blue!

Before painting I started with the LMM product that is quickly becoming my favorite – the 1-Step Builder Gel! Start by painting two thin coats, curing in between, remembering to seal the edges with each coat. Then, I painted my base colors; blue for the pinky and thumb; red for the ring and pointer fingers; and white for the middle finger. For art, I added white stars to the blue nails, white stripes to the red nails, and attempted (for the first time) to hand paint gold fireworks on the white nail.
The Looks
For all three of these looks I crafted the same base makeup using the Maybelline Master Primer, the Smashbox Healthy Glow tinted moisturizer, the Fenty Beauty Match Stix Contour, the Sephora brand setting powder, the Tarte Shape Tape Concealer, the Sailor Moon x ColourPop blush, and the Milani Stay Put brow wax.
Red

The first look I created is my take on the “cherry eye” makeup looks that were popular last year!

After creating my base, I used the Sailor Moon x ColourPop shade “Shining Moon” as my base eyeshadow shade. In order to create the exact shape that I wanted to achieve with my eye look, I used the Thrive Causemetics Lip Filler Lip Liner in shade “Valisia”, following the outer edge of my eye area. I used a small smudging brush to blend out the liner, repeating the lining and blending process on the lower lash line.

At this point I start going in with eyeshadows, using the Morphe 35H Hot Spot Artistry palette, pictured at right. First I used the dark plum shade, following the shape I created using the Thrive liner, blending between each layer. Remember to start with a light hand! It’s easier to add more shadow than it is to remove too much!
Then I used the most reddish shade in this palette to fill in the majority of the eyelid, leaving the inner third of the eye clean. Next, I added some depth back into the look by adding a bit of the dark brown shade to the outer corner, before balancing out the look by adding the light beige color to the inner third of the eye.
Using the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid eyeliner, I created a winged eyeliner and went back with the NYX Satin Finish Black eyeliner pencil to tight line my eyes. Then I finished off the eye with the Benefit BadGal BANG! Mascara.
For my lips, I began by lining them with the NYX Lingerie XXL Matte Liquid Lipstick in shade “Bust-Ed” as liner and filled them in with the NYX Butter Gloss in shade “Cherry Pie.” I finished off the look by relining my lips with the Huda Beauty Lip Contour 2.0 in shade “Rich Brown.”

White

Once my base was created – with the only exception being I used my Lancome Teint Idole Ultra Wear concealer rather than the Shape Tape, and the Benefit Fluff Up Brow Wax instead of the Milani brow wax – I began crafting a similarly shaped look to the red, but changing where I placed my shadows and highlights!

I created this cut crease look using the ColourPop Of Quartz palette.

Starting with the shade “Granite Access” in the crease, I followed the general shape of my brow bone, bringing the ends up in a wing-style shape. To be able to add white shadow to my lid, I used the Tarte Shape Tape on the eyelid and below cat-eye shape I created with the grayish-brown shadow. After wiping off the brush, I used it to set the concealer with setting powder and the white shade from the Pony Effect palette. At this point, I used the NYX white eyeliner pencil to outline and define the light section of the look.
To finish off this look I used the Stila to create a winged eyeliner, and went over that with L.A. Girl Iridescent Liquid Eyeshadow in shade “Aura” with an angled brush. I also used this brush and liquid liner to outline the white wing, and along the lower lash line. Unfortunately, my camera malfunctioned and I don’t have any photos of this step!

Blue

This geometric, wavy-pool style blue look reminds me of the ripples in a swimming pool, perfect for the summer Olympics!
I used a combination of the Barbie x ColourPop Malibu Barbie palette, the Morphe 35H Hot Spot Artistry palette, and the NYX Eye Pencil in shade “Electric Blue” to craft this look. Similarly to the red look, I started by applying the Sailor Moon x ColourPop “shining moon” shade as my base shade before using an eyeliner – the NYX Eye Pencil in shade “white” – to craft the exact shape that I was going for, in this case it was a rippled look.

Once I had achieved a shape that I was happy with, I went back over the white pencil with the NYX blue liner. Now I start using shadows, starting with the Barbie palette blue shade “Malibu Memories”, and alternating by adding more liner and blending it out with the Barbie shadow.

Once I had built up the color, I moved to the Morphe palette adding the icy blue shade above my wavy line, the darker blue below the wavy line, and the beige shade to smooth out the eyelid.

To finish off the eye I lined the lower lash line with the blue NYX liner, and blended it out with the blue shade from the Barbie palette. Then I added a layer of the Lancome Cils Booster XL Mascara primer before using the BadGal BANG! mascara.
I finished off the look by setting with the Morphe Continuous Mist setting spray, and crafted the most adorable mauve-pink lip by lining with the Barbie Malibu x ColourPop lip liner in shade “Dream House”, the NYX Lingerie XXL Matte Liquid Lipstick in shade “Bust-Ed” to fill in the lip, and the Jovani lip gloss in shade “Blush” to add shine.

Looks I’ve Already Created, For the Other Olympic Rings
In honor of the other colors featured in the Olympic Rings logo, I’m including a few photos of makeup looks focused on yellow, green, and black!
YELLOW
A few years ago I bought the Juvia’s Place The Zulu palette and instantly knew I needed to use the yellow and orange shades to create this flame inspired look, reminiscent of the Olympic Torch!

GREEN
This is forever and always be my favorite green makeup look that I’ve created! This Third Eye Chakra-inspired look was created using the Makeup Revolution and Emerald palettes that I discussed in this green-themed makeup post, and several types of eyeliner to hand draw the eye and other markings!

BLACK
An oldie but a goodie; I love how this invisible eyeliner look came out! So far I’ve created this look using standard grayscale, as well as a pink version for my Barbie Halloween look!
