Hello Fashion Month!

Hello Fashion Month!

September marks the beginning of the fashion calendar, with New York Fashion Week kicking off on Thursday, September 6. And, because I won’t be able to see any shows in person, I’m going to share with you how I keep up to date through New York (9/6-9/12), London (9/14-9/18), Milan (9/18-9/24), and Paris (9/24-10/2) Fashion Weeks!

  •  CFDA – Council of Fashion Designers of America

Not only does the CFDA have the entire fashion calendar available through their site, but they allow you to keep up with the business side of the industry! You may also recognize CFDA from the Vogue Fashion Fund, which is a grant competition for fashion designers (budding designers: check them out!)

Founded in 2007 by Imran Ahmed, BoF, offers a new perspective to fashion by giving you an inside look of the industry. Think of them almost like the New York Times of fashion.

  • WWD – (formerly) Women’s Wear Daily

Formerly printed under the name, Women’s Wear Daily, WWD is essentially the fashion girl’s newspaper. I like to browse the daily newsletter to get all of my headlines. The only “snafu” with WWD is that some of their content is only available through a paid subscription.

Would this list be complete if I didn’t mention THE American fashion magazine? I didn’t think so either. The Vogue Runway app (also available online) allows you to view every piece that goes down the runway, by season or designer!

  • Instagram

I follow a HECK ton of models on Instagram, and by doing so you get to see all of the behind the scenes chaos that leads to incredible shows.

Fashionista is a gem. I especially enjoy this site because they keep a running list of fashion-based companies that are hiring interns and paid positions.

  • Fashion Blogs!

Rounding out this list is a category, rather than a specific publication. Reading various fashion blogs keeps you in the know, and allows you to experience fashion on a more personal level. Each blog will show you different shows (you can use the CFDA calendar to figure out which shows you’re interested in seeing), through the experience and perspective of the blog itself. For example, if you read The Blonde Salad, Man Repeller, or Keep Calm and Chiffon, you’ll get three very different perspectives of the same show.

If you’re keeping up with Fashion Month, tell me which shows you’ve liked or disliked, and the ones you can’t wait to see! And, if you read other fashion sites to keep up with all things fashion, let me know in the comments below!
