FairySeason Swimsuit Adventure!

There’s something so exciting about online shopping. It’s reminiscent of those childhood memories, when you’re mere seconds away from the most exciting moments; opening presents on Christmas morning, those few seconds before a Fourth of July fireworks show, staying up until midnight on the night before your 10th birthday.

Imagine me, waiting impatiently for about six weeks, hoping every time the mail arrived that it would hold my new goodies; swimsuits from Fairy Season.
The Fairy Season “About Us” page reads,

But that was all of the information I could find on the company. Even their social media doesn’t have lots of details.
And then the wait was over, and I held in my hands two small, off-white, squishy packages. My mom had previously (and successfully!) ordered very cute bikinis from this company, so I had hope that my order would be true to form.
I was on the hunt for some cute one pieces that could double as leotards for cool and sophisticated looks. After looking through pages upon pages on the website, I was able to narrow the field down to six pieces:

  1. Solid Zipper Swimsuit – I was very into this option. There’s just something so appealing about zippers, but I couldn’t help but think that the high cut legs would be unforgiving in a way that I didn’t feel like dealing with.
  2. Leaf Plunge – This was arguably the one I was most excited for! It just looks so classic in the photos!
  3. Geometric Halter – This one was so pretty and girlie, which I wasn’t opposed to even though that isn’t usually the aesthetic I go for. But, this one looked a little too much like a swimsuit and I don’t like to limit myself that way.
  4. Solid Flouncing – As cute as this one is, and it’s one of my favorite colors, it just didn’t speak to me the way some of the others did.
  5. Floral Backless – I was really impressed with this design from the photos. Looking at it now I’m not sure why I decided against this one…
  6. Color Block Deep Plunge – I had high hopes for this piece, the photos just scream classic black and white simplicity.
Ultimately I chose the black and white with the plunging neckline (#6) and the strapless white with the tropical leaf pattern (#2).
And now the waiting game began. I anxiously checked the mail for five weeks and three days. But you know what they say, watched water doesn’t boil. And then, one day they had arrived!
Online shopping is a lot like Russian Roulette in the way that you can never be sure that what will arrive in the mail will resemble the photos. With a gulp of hesitation, I opened the first package and saw something green and white. My heart soared.
I had been most excited for the strapless swimsuit. Not only would it look stunning in some Instagram worthy vacation photos, but I could also picture it with dark wash skinny jeans, white paten leather pumps, and suit or tuxedo jacket. Sculpt the perfect messy bun, and some light makeup for a perfect day look. Or, with tousled Victoria’s Secret waves and a smoky eye for a classic and sophisticated night outfit. But what lay inside that small package was not the wardrobe staple of my dreams.
Firstly, in the photos on the website, there was no yellow in the pattern. Not that I don’t like yellow but its only in some areas and isn’t really the look I’m going for, you know? Next, the straps that are attached. To the ‘strapless’ swimsuit. Overall it doesn’t look like it was well put together, although it is lined and I appreciate that. But this may be the biggest problem for me; the boning in the v-neck doesn’t go all the way to the top of the neckline, rendering this a fail as far as strapless goes. I was feeling disappointed, and I still had one more swimsuit to open.
There are three immediate details that catch my eye as I pull the color block one out of the package; It’s not lined, meaning it really cannot get wet unless I was on a European-adults-only-beach. It’s a halter neckline, which isn’t terrible, just not my usual choice. And lastly, it’s not black, but navy blue and white. Again, this is kind of a nonissue except that it limits how many pieces I can pair it with. But I have high hopes for it, and I’m planning on wearing it for a test run this weekend, with black pants that have zipper accents on the ankles and red on the waist band, with an off-white cape jacket, paired with red, rhinestone encrusted heels.
Make sure to keep an eye on my Instagram page to see how I end up styling both pieces! Have a great weekend, loves, and remember to SLAY 😉
